The wild beauty of America's Last Frontier awaits at the Valdez KOA. Eighteen acres of wilderness surround the campground, where you can easily access hiking and ATV trails. Charter a local guide to fish world-class waters for salmon and halibut. Board a wildlife excursion boat to scan the Sound for humpback whales, fuzzy sea otters, comical-looking puffins, and other birds not often seen in the Lower 48. Come face-to-face with one of the largest tidewater glaciers in North America, an ice sheet as high as a football field, and another big Alaska memory. Open Memorial Day (weather permitting). We love KOA and didn’t mind that it was a few miles out of town. We were much closer to the hatchery than those in town. We went there several times! Grassy gravel pavement, so it was nice to be away from all gravel.

We boondocked for a couple days near the glacier and decided to spend one night at the KOA to put on water and dump our tanks. I'm SO glad we did. The camp host/owner was great and the sites were mostly level and clean. We were able to do our laundry and clean up before we left for another 4 days elsewhere in AK. It was very easy to find and enter this KOA, It's located close to town. This KOA has multiple options for full hookup sites. I would recommend this site to anybody looking to relax either coming into or getting ready to leave Valdez. There is also a small convenience store located onsite that is open until 9 (If i remember correctly). This site is also pet friendly, just keep them leashed.

After a night at Blueberry Lake, we decided to move closer (20 miles closer) to town. Most of the RV parks in town are clustered around a couple of the busy intersections down town, and feature check to jowl parking. KOA was closer to the hatchery, owned and operated by wonderful, friendly folks, had a beautiful (and little used, at least when we were there) laundry, and an variety of sites - FHU or W/E or tent. The private shower rooms were clean and the water was hot. The dump site was easy to access so we opted for a W/E site which worked very well for us. This was a great base for local exploration, and we had fast internet via the Mobley.

We were there two days the end of May 2021. We had reservations and arrived after hours. We had an issue connecting properly to the water. I alerted management (Lori) via text. She responded with urgency and quickly solved the issue and compensated us for our trouble. Quite frankly, I was taken aback by how concerned she was with making sure we left feeling great about our stay there. Oh, and the bathrooms and showers are CLEAN! Thanks so much, Lori and KOA staff.

The review that says they treat you like family -- or better -- is certainly still true. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. The best part of our stay was that, even though we didn't have a full hookup site, you can text them and they'll come out with a honey wagon and empty your tanks for you, for free! We were on the edge of the playground so had nice open views. Close enough to town to make it easy, far enough away that there's lots of space and openness. The park WiFi, unlike most others, was super-fast; they even challenged us to "break" it! 2G and 5G service, I was able to work and stream HD movies with no issues.

Typical KOA. Nice helpful people clean and green. If compared to sites in Valdez proper no comparison. Much greener much less crowded much nicer environment. Short drive to town and lots of parking there. Only negative was many washers/dryers not working in laundry. Able to dump, get propane.

I never take the time to write reviews, but truly feel that this place deserves it. We were a last minute stay, booked online and were so happy. The showers were hot, clean, and no time limit. Thank you for a great stay!
