This is a very nice small quiet campground in the park. There is a small store restaurant a short distance from the entrance to the campground.

We camped here at the Legion Lake Campground and it was awesome. We saw bison walking through our campsite every day. The sites are very spacious and not too close to neighbors. We have a 41 foot 5th wheel and had plenty of room. There is so much to do at this Custer State Park. We drove the Wildlife Loop Rd, but honestly didn't really see much wildlife. We saw more wildlife in the campground. We loved the Needles Highway, Cathedral Spires, Sylvan Lake and Mt. Rushmore. We had very good Verizon 4G coverage at the campground, but the coverage was spotty at many other areas of the state park. Since we work from the road it was nice to have good coverage at the campground. The only thing that could make this campground better is if they would add water hookups to the campsites, and sewer hookups would make it even better. Or at least a dump station nearby.

Leveld site. Our neighbours were at a decent distance. ;-)

The campground looks new so the trees are not very big yet. No dump station. There is one place on the campground where you have access to fresh water. As for all Custer State Park campgrounds, you need to have a reservation. The campground host will give you the number to call if you do not have one. Everything is super clean. There is a short hiking trail starting at the end of the campground. Not worth it though.

This campground features very level paved sites in a relatively open environment in the heart of Custer State Park. The central location is nice, but the best part of the location is having the Legion Lake Lodge right across the street. There is an opportunity to rent canoes on the lake, the store has a nice selection of souvenirs and candy/snacks/beer. The restaurant is fairly affordable and has a lovely deck facing the lake for outdoor dining, with local beers on tap.

The campground itself is pretty small, so the bathhouse is more than sufficient to serve the whole campground. Bathrooms were immaculately clean. Our least favorite part of the campground was that the sites are very open and grassy, so there's little privacy even though the sites have decent separation. With so many families in the campground we were surrounded by people playing lawn games. Still, it's a very nice campground if that's the atmosphere you are looking for!

On AT&T, we had 2 bars LTE unboosted. Download: 1.32 Mbps Upload: (test failed)

We did not have long enough to enjoy this campground. The sites are very long, paved and fairly level. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. The bathroom was very clean and appeared reasonably modern. Tempera 5d urr were very pleasant and we were able to leave the windows open and turn the fan off at night, skipping A/C, altogether.

I would love to visit this park, again, for longer. This seems like a park that l, although popular, is a place you could really kick back and relax.

Clean and well maintained campground!

Comes with it’s own Bison and Deer that roam the campground on a regular basis!

Bath and Showers were cleaned daily! We actually used the showers, which we rarely do in a State Park campground!

Biggest drawback for this campground is that the dump is about 10 miles away, near the visitor center!

Saw many Bison (3 large herds and solitary males), Deer, Elk, Big Horn Sheep, and other wildlife!

Several trails for hiking and biking! Along with other activities previously described!

Borders the Wind Cave NP, which is well worth the visit! Scenic Drives abound! Of course, Mt Rushmore is near by!

Crazy Horse is nothing more than a commercialized ripoff! View it from HWY 16 and save yourself many dollars!

Will definitely comeback here again!

Site 1 is quite close to the main road. So expect a lot of traffic noise, starting early in the morning. Also very little shade. Its quieter and more shaded further in to the campground. Very friendly hosts. Good bath house with no-pay showers. Sites are all paved and are level. We had bison at our site. There is a lodge across the street where you can get wood, ice and beer - but not milk. We also stayed at Sylvan lake - much quieter (except for the tourist helicopters) but no cell service.

Can't beat Custer State Park!! The Wildlife loop is an absolute must!! Be sure to get up early or head out in the evening. The campground was quiet at night and full of summer fun in the day! Level sites with electric hook up. Easy access and plenty of room between the neighbors.

The camp host is very friendly, checks in with everyone. He even brought us some firewood left behind by other campers ! Very quiet, even when filled almost to capacity. Super clean shower and bathroom facilities. After a long day of hiking, it was great to come “home” to a clean, quiet space and enjoy a campfire. Verizon had three bars. The lake is beautiful as well. We would stay here again for sure !
