This seemed the best option in proximity to Fargo, ND. Spaces are fairly tight for a state park in my opinion. This is a seasonal park as far as I can tell, meaning that during winter months when I was there, there were no services except for electric. When I was there the campground only had a few campers so site distance was not an issue. Its a decent option to explore Fargo, ND and other surrounding areas but surely will not make my list as a top Minnesota State Park.

While I don't think of this as a destination park, it was a great place to spend a few days while traveling through ND and MN. The small, shady campground is surrounded by meadows and borders the Buffalo River. There's a nice network of trails, but after two days we had walked them all. The swimming "pool" (which is actually a large hole that river water is pumped into), wasn't open because they needed to hire lifeguards. In short - not a lot to do at or around the campground.
At the time of our stay, there were only ever 2-3 other campers in the campground, which meant it was very quiet and peaceful. Didn't use the showers, but they looked serviceable,if not a little old.

We camped here on Sept 4, 2018. Camping fee is $25 and then you have to buy a $7 car sticker. After spending 20 minutes trying to contact the phone in reservation service we gave up got a site. The host finally got in contact with the reservation people after 30 more minutes then brought his phone to our site so we could reserve the site for the night. Great camp host, lousy reservation service. You can hear the railroad in the night and the highway. The camping is very open but there are trees overhead. They did have electric and water.

Buffalo River State Park and campground is our first Minnesota State Park. Nicely maintained by the State of Minnesota, The Nature Conservancy and Minnesota State University, the park features hiking trails, swimming, picnic area and the Minnesota State University Moorhead Regional Science Center.
The bathhouse is relatively new and very well maintained. Our Verizon service was very good.
We're here just after Labor Day and there are very few people in the campground.

Quiet campsite, great trails with excellent signage, beautiful prairie. It was unfortunate that the pool was closed but like a lot of places there are not enough lifeguards. Very nice bathhouse!

This is a small campground with small sites. Our 34’ rig just fit into the site. Not to mention that we had to change sites due to low hanging trees.
Campsite parking area mostly dirt, grass and a little gravel.
At one time this was probably a nice campground but really needs some TLC and updating.

Decent little state park. Electric worked. Some large trees on edge of RV circle. Path to river (which is very low due to drought) near tent sites. Showers and Restrooms clean. Do make sure you know your site number as the staff isn’t there past 4?
