Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on September 18, 2019I read a negative review of Langhor Campground which is just below Hood Creek, and I generally agree with that review. Don’t waste your time with Langhor, go straight to Hood Creek because it’s only 5 minutes farther up the canyon. Nicely maintained sites, most of which are on the reservoir. Clean bathrooms and very private setting. We will definitely return when in the area.

I checked recreation.gov the day before I arrived and saw 10 of the 28 sites available, so I took a chance and did not reserve in advance (it was a Monday night). I arrived at 8pm and found 2 empty spots. Neither were along the water. I'd say 90% of the sites were along the water - and spread out so you felt like you were on BLM land. Amazing views of the water and the surrounding mountains. Completely unplugged - literally. Cell phone coverage died 6 miles back!
The last 1/2 mile of road leading to the campground is gravel - and hasn't been repaired in a very long time. No choice but to drive slowly and avoid as many pot holes as possible. Once you hit the campground - it got even worse! Hard to believe because the rest of the campground was in pristine condition.
When you enter the campsite - pick up a payment envelope. Especially if you park in sites 17-20 - they are at the far end of the campground and it's a good 20 minute walk back to the entrance. There is a payment drop box around site 8 or 10, so if you pick up the envelope, you can drop off payment without having to walk all the way back!
The pit toilets were clean and the grounds were well kept. I can see why this is recommended over the campground you pass on the way in.
Nothing negative other than the road. I'm driving a 21 foot campervan, so I didn't have too much issue. But if you have a large rig, this might be a little challenging. And there are areas marked as limited turn around radius.

This campground was good. The composting bathrooms were clean and the camp host was friendly (came in mid september). The dirt road about .5 miles ahead of the campground was a bit rough with a lot of ruts so that’s something to consider. Nice view of the reservoir and good sized bear boxes. A nice place to stay ~40min outside Bozeman!!
