This park is about 35 min from Raleigh, has power and water and some of the spots are really large. It's clean and well maintained with a nice mix of tent and RV sites. When you make your reservation, there's no office check in, you just go to your spot and there are places to buy wood for campfires. It's well shaded (on a 90 degree day we didn't need the AC on that night). I'd definitely recommend it for a place near the city to enjoy the outdoors!

We live in the Triangle, so we camped here many times before getting an RV. It's much more enjoyable with air conditioning! It was a humid summer day, but the spacious, shaded spots, many lakeside, provided a relief from the heat. Be sure to walk around your site since we were surprised to find a hidden beach which was the perfect spot for our Weim to play. There is a nice hiking trail at the park accessible from most sites. There is a small beach and playground for kids, as well as a boat launch. For mountain biking, you have to drive to Beaver Dam, but since it's a part of Fall Lake, you do not need to pay the $6-7 admission fee if you have the pass from Holly Point. The bathroom were typical state park bathroom. The only downside was the slanted site that made it difficult to maneuver for our ill-equipped minivan. Look at the pictures online to find a level site, and there are even double sites available. If you are traveling from out of town, check out nearby Wake Forest with a quaint little downtown. If feeling more adventurous, drive to downtown Raleigh or even Durham. Great location to explore or simply enjoy lake living.

This is a local state park to us between Durham and Wake Forest. Offers multiple swim beaches, with boat ramps if you are so inclined. The last weekend we spent was very quiet, with plenty of privacy from neighboring sites. I think site 92 where we stayed is listed as 105 feet, felt like I was backing up forever. Not all are that big but there are definitely big rig friendly sites. 30 amps and water, with a dump station towards the entrance. Some of the sites do have a little bit of a grade to them, either down or up when you are backing in, so be prepared for that.

Wow this is such a neat and tidy campsite.
We stayed peak summer 24th July and there were plenty of sites available.
Great Lake for swimming. Clean bathrooms. Nice flat sites ours was by the lake edge.
Playground for the kids. Shops nearby if you need pizza etc.
What more do you need?
One of our favourite stays.

Holly Point is a busy, family-friendly campground. The bathhouses are typical for a North Carolina State Park with basic showers and facilities. They are cleaned daily but see a lot of traffic from guests. The campground has many sites for both tent and RV camping alike. We love that the sites are spacious and well-maintained in most areas of the campground. The driveways tend to be long enough to accommodate large rigs and multiple vehicles. Holly Point has a dedicated swimming area with well-maintained picnic areas for visiting families. No sewer at any sites, but 30amp and water worked well for us.

Though Covid time, the trash gets picked up and facilities were cleaned and sanitized few times a day. The beach has been taped off but people just access the lake using whatever path they could navigate comfortably.
I would have given 5 stars if the ranger did at least a round during night time. One of the campsite had a small party and stayed up late with their dance music. If the ranger stopped this this then I would have slept better than I did.
Was tempted to call ranger number but there no cell service inside the park

We were treated to an amazing experience at Holly Point Campground. Site 83 is at the end of a cul-de-sac and was a spacious level site with a gravel pad that had 30 amp electric, water, picnic table and fire pit. It was quiet during the week as we had no neighbors which felt very spacious! They have a hiking trail that runs through the campground. They also have a beautiful beach, boat ramp, and playground area. The camp hosts were very informative and stopped by to say hello when they were walking their dogs. AT&T cell coverage was 3 bars with good upload and download speeds and there were 15+ OTA TV channels. The closest city is Wake Forest and has everything you would want.

All in all not bad but the sites didn't appear to be very level. Our site was definitely not level as we had to raise one site of the trailer by about 3-4" inches off the ground to get it level. We had to back up a slope to put the trailer into our site.
Additionally a trail through the campground to the bathhouse would have been nice. We had to bushwack to get to the bathhouse.
The bathhouse was clean and fairly well maintained. The sites were nicely shaded and not right on top of each other. So while there were some trade off's I would stay here again.

The sites in our loop were large and private. There was a substantial distance between sites and plenty of underbrush to screen your neighbors. These sites would have great shade on a hot summer day. The sites themselves are gravel/sand with timber frames to lay out the tent pad. Nice big tent pad with a fire ring, picnic table, and plenty of remaining room for your tent or canopy.
The park is focused on the lake. There are two swimming beaches as well as a boat ramp. I have heard that some sites have water access, but I don't believe there are many of those. Most will require a walk to the water. There is a nice trail in the woods that connects all of the camping loops with the beach/playground/boat ramp.
About my only complaint is that garbage is only collected at the dump station so you may have to drive to throw out your trash. Pretty minor complaint for a very nice campground.
