We left a CG farther north a day early to head home due to weather. We stopped here to check it out for future visiting and found MANY empty sites. I guess others thought the same about the weather, but it had cleared up. We got lucky.
There are 3 loops. A, B & C. B & C were pretty crowded still and the sites are tight. We found a great open site on the water in A loop. There were several sites in A loop that we would be happy with. We are in a 20' trailer.
The restrooms were good and the showers hot. There are GREAT mountain bike trails here! There is a separate swimming area and a boat ramp about 1/2 mile away. We will definitely visit here again.
Fresh water and a dump station are on premises, but I don't think any sites had hookups.
They do accept reservations. I think we were the Murphys for a night... ;-)

We chose Jackrabbit Mountain for Labor Day weekend. Why? We simply could not find another reservable site in any of the areas we wanted to visit within our parameters of cooler-than-Atlanta and within 3 hours of home. It worked out just fine!
There’s lots of good things about the park and a couple that detract. First the good:
1. Waterfront. Lake Chatuge is a huge, clean, cool lake. Many of the water sites have actual little beaches! This is huge if you have kids or dogs, or just want park your water toys. I’ve attached annotated pictures of many of the prime waterfront sites. Some of those sites are partially shady too!
2. Space. Most sites are, by today’s campground standards, huge.
3. Civility. Even though you can’t expect peace and serenity on a holiday weekend, it was mostly quiet during quiet hours. People were friendly and enjoying themselves. It appeared that many of the campers were local.
4. The bath house on loop C was clean and looked fairly new.
5. Mountain bike/hiking trails. A network of trails in great condition were an easy .9 miles from our site and connected by an off-road path/trail. These attract about even numbers of bikers, hikers and runners; everyone shared. The trails are well marked, mostly easy singletrack, with a few moderately difficult spots. Nothing crazy. Lots of little side paths for dog water and swims.
6. There’s a boat ramp and a dedicated swimming area.

A couple downsides:
1. No hookups. Choose your site carefully if it’s warm. Some are nearly full sun. Water is available and a dump station is on site.
2. Poison ivy. If you’re sensitive, keep your eyes open… it’s everywhere.
3. The camp host can’t move your site; you’ll have to pay again if you want to move.
4. The park is open only from 4/30-10/30, which is unfortunate; April and November often the prettiest months and are normally comfortable in this area.
We were in site #1, across from the camp host. It’s shady, almost perfectly level and only a little tricky to back into as there’s a low wall in front of it. We had plenty of privacy. The town of Hiawassee GA is close by for provisions as is Hayesville, NC. We’ll be back – next time without dogs AND with bikes and water toys!!

Site backed up on lake. Great campground, but no electric so had to listen to people running generators all day. Bring a kayak or a bike and enjoy the area and water!

The maintenace for the entire campground does not exist. The restrooms were not cleaned the entire time I was there. I guess that is because there is no host. The steps downhill to my site from parking should be roped off. This place is so bad, I cannot believe a professional manager allows it to continue taking guests. One star for the view.
