“a stonehenge that's a little closer”
The Missouri S&T Stonehenge is a partial reconstruction of Stonehenge, the ancient megalith located on Salisbury Plain 75 miles Southwest of London. It stands for many things; a lasting monument to man's drive for knowledge and engineering, the largest monument to ever be cut with a waterjet, and a link from the past into the modern. It was dedicated on June 20, 1984 or the summer solstice, at the site of the northwest edge of campus. Approximately 160 tons of granite were used in the monument. The rock was cut to the proper dimensions by Missouri S&T's Waterjet equipment.
Exited highway and my GPS led me right past it headed back to highway. That was the prefect way to see it, just driving past. Don't really see that it's worth a stop.
Ditto Ginger Risner above. It was great because most of it was okay for the kids to run around and climb on. Good stop for younger energetic kids to get some wiggles out!
This is a neat little stop especially if you're a history/astronomy nerd. It's only half scale, but it will open your eyes to the enormity of the real thing!
Right off the highway quick stretch and back in car ,,fun quick car stop. !
We drove right past this spot and decided it wasn't really worth getting out to look around. Since it's 1/2 scale and constructed out of blocky concrete, this isn't a very faithful recreation of the original Stonehenge and I really can't see much of a reason to stop unless you're walking the dog or exercising the kiddos during a road trip.
Great stop...awesome to see.
Nice break from the highway, close to exit and interesting information posted within the exhibit.
We stopped to stretch our legs but was painfully surprised with being in awe of this place. We learned some fun facts and got some great pics.
This is such a cool stop! It's a great photo-op and a good place to park your car and stretch your legs.
Nice stop to stretch legs!
