“spacious fields beside a picturesque, meandering stream”
Bull Run's spacious fields accommodate groups by the hundreds, even thousands, for picnics, camping or special events. Bull Run's scenic woodland and trails offer miles of hiking and solitude. In springtime, acres of bluebells and other wildflowers bloom beside a picturesque, meandering stream. A large outdoor pool is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Disc golf is open year round. A public shooting center, which includes sporting clays, skeet, trap, wobble trap and indoor archery, is open year-round.

This is a beautiful, large campground with big sites and lots of privacy. It's unusual to have full hookups at a county park, so that was a nice plus. The RV pull-through sites in the full hookup area are along the side of the roads ("C-shaped" pull-throughs). This provides a lot of privacy and a large camping area which we love, but ours (#127) was very unlevel (sloped away from the road), and even though it's a pull-through we had to back out due to low branches in the front of the site. While the roads inside the campground are wide and paved, the very long residential roads (e.g. Bull Run Post Office Rd) you have to take to get there are narrow, winding, and uneven. Even though the campground is physically very close to I-66 and stores/restaurants, it takes a good 10+ minutes just to wind your way out of the campground/local roads and back to a main road to get anywhere. The other big drawback for us was the park's outdoor shooting range, which was active every day (9am-8pm), especially on weekends (9am-5pm). Personally, we don't find the sound of nearby gunfire all day long to be a relaxing camping experience. Being a county park there were plenty of places to walk our dog, though we did find a couple of deer ticks after our walks (very common in Virginia). The campground and sites are heavily wooded, so in the summer you should have plenty of shade. In October it was a bit dark for our tastes. There aren't a lot of campground options in the DC suburbs, especially with full hookups, so while Bull Run is not our favorite in the area, we would return if needed (e.g. if we hit the 14 day limit at the other nearby county park). Our AT&T worked but data was often very slow. Verizon worked well most of the time but sometimes was slow.

I didnt know what to expect when we drove into the park but I was pleasantly surprised. Friendly staff and spacious sites. Full hookup and they also have a dump station at the entrance/exit as well as potable water. Only one bathhouse and it has 4 unisex, seperated showers. Nice and quiet area with an abundance of trails to walk and wildlife. We would have stayed longer if they had vacancies.

We picked this park because it was close to Manassas and Washington D.C. When we arrived everything was perfect, the site, the woods, the fauna, but stay a day, and find out that unless you did a tour of duty in The Middle East you're never get use to the shooting!!! The sounds of Gun fire start at 8:30 am, and go into the late night. I knew that there was a Target center near by, but I never thought it was that loud. I was wrong! Also the park sits above and to one side of Interstate 66, so the bowl effect of the land makes the traffic noise very loud specially at night when the gun fire noise does not masks the traffic noise, and to top it off the park sits right under one of the flying lanes of planes coming into Dulles Airport. Not only is it noisy, but if you have a digital antenna every time a plane passes by which is every 5 minutes you lose the picture. NOW!! The greatest things about the park! The wilderness, the animals, the birds, and the fantastic Trails. The park also has a water park in the summer, very clean bathrooms and showers, it's easy to access, and phone service is not bad. They have NO Wi-Fi! I really loved walking the trails, and enjoying the birds! We'll only stay here again in case of emergency.

The one and only problem with this park is the shooting range, which is located in the same county park as the campground. We visited in late November/early December, so it wasn't quite as busy as it would be in the summer, but we still heard plenty of firing. Inside the rig, with the windows closed, it wasn't too much of an issue, but I can't imagine trying to sit outside on a nice summer afternoon. It would be really annoying.
Otherwise, the park is great. The campground offers full hook-ups for about $50 per night, which, in the Metro DC area, is really good. The sites are nice and spacious, and because the sites are all pull throughs next to the road, your rig faces the woods, rather than looking into your neighbor's home.
We did have a bit of an issue with our water spigot when we first got there, but the office quickly sent someone to fix it. Otherwise, things worked great and everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful.
We would definitely stay there again.

This county park in Northern Virginia right off of Route 66 is a great place to stay near Washington DC.
It's a good size with many spots, picnic tables, and few short hiking trails. Everyone was friendly and the park is in good shape. The men's bathroom was clean but the women's bathroom had some drainage problems (a giant puddle).
As others have said, there is a shooting range nearby that you can hear in the distance. It's not too bad, and we actually went to it. For $35, we took a class on how to use a shotgun and got to fire about 20 rounds at clay skeets.
There were no programs in early May, but they do have special weekend events all summer long. The pool looks great for kids, but it doesn't open until Memorial Day weekend.

We stayed at this campground for two weeks while we explored the DC area. Metro line is 20 minutes away and has free parking on the weekends. The train ride into the city takes about 40 minutes. Campground is very clean. Community campfire with free s'mores for the kids on Friday evenings. The pull-thru spots are really more like pulling-in along the road. While this is different I found it very nice because your camper door opens to a huge wooded area. So nice not to see other campers every time you go outside. We tow with a semi truck for a total length of 65 foot. We had no issues navigating the park in our large rig.

We were looking for a good campground that gets us close to DC and our family in Fairfax and this location was pretty good for that. Getting there is a bit tricky just because there are a few difficult turns when you leave highway 29 - also the main highway 66 has a lot of traffic, so it was actually good to come in on a weekend - but once we got there, we really liked it.
Bull Run Regional Park is huge and had so many things to do. We were there late in the season so we were not able to go to the large water park and it was cold so we could not do a lot of outdoor things, but they have many walking trails and lots of outdoor areas to attend. They were setting up for the yearly Festival Of Lights at the time we were there, so we got a lot of previews as well as a "free" way to see the lights - it was beautiful.
Yes, there is a shooting range right next to the campground and we hear the noise often, but I really did not think it was a major problem. You feel like you are out in the woods already and sometimes there is noise in the woods. WAY better than being next to a highway (which this is actually near, but you cannot hear it) or something like that.
Getting to DC did take a bit longer than expected because it takes 3-4 miles from the campground back to highway 29 and there is always traffic. Most days we could get to the Vienna / Fairfax Metro station in 30-45 minutes and then a 30-45 minute metro ride into DC. Same on the way back. Just set aside 3-4 hours of your day for commute and be patient in the traffic. The HOV lanes saved us once we figured out how to use them properly.
The sites were nice overall and we had a good 50amp FHU site. They were different because they were pull thru but it was like parallel parking, so some rigs may have a harder time on the sites where the hookups are on the street side. Some sites your door will open to the road and some to the trees - either is a really nice view. We did see that quite a few of the sites were not all that level, but most of them were so large that you can probably find a way to get level, even if you have to get creative.
We did not qualify for the senior discount, but I believe if you have the National Parks Senior pass that you might be able to get 50% off. Give it a try.
Overall - this was an amazing place and we look forward to staying there again soon.

I was in the area for a week of work. It snowed while we were there, and the campground was great. I would guess it would be even nicer in the summer. No wifi to the campsite, so bring your own hotspot.

This is our first Campendium review! Easy to get into as new RVers. Huge regional park with campground at the back. Our site was nicely level and equipped with 50 amp service and water. We were far enough away that we could hardly hear the gun range but the tent sites on the outer loop were closer and louder. Park has a nice little store, water park, disc golf. Bathrooms were clean with showers and laundry facilities. Manassas Battlefield Park is just down the road and worth a visit. Take the Henry Hill walking tour.

The shooting range started at 7a.m. It’s still blasting after 6 p.m. Camped on the northeast point, right next to the range. These are the sites you get through the reservation website. By the time you pay for the site, reservation fee and sales tax, it’s over $50 a day. For NOISE. It’s too bad because it’s a beautiful park with lovely trees, birds, sites well spread out. Bring your bicycles. We will not be back. Oh, and it’s a no-alcohol park unless it’s inside your rig. Pull throughs are tight, not level, gravel. Reserve with 5 feet added to your length. No tv on rig antenna... trees.
