“world-famous stained-glass globe!”
This world-famous, three-story, stained-glass globe is one of the key attractions at the Library. The Mapparium’s three-dimensional perspective of the world of 1935 is enhanced by A World of Ideas, an original presentation that features a rich orchestration of words, music, and LED lights to illustrate how ideas have traversed time and geography and changed the world.

An amazing site to see! Watching the light show is great and it's fun to play with the acoustics. I used my student discount but I don't think it should cost money to see because it is only the globe and not a larger exhibit.
You have to pay to enter and they don't allow photography. What a bummer.
The library building is lovely and the mapparium is interesting to look at but it is a very short and limited tour. The whole presentation was maybe 15 minutes. I was under the impression that there was a discussion of thoughts and movements that spread across the globe, but really just a few quotes were shared and that is it. For someone who has never experienced a whisper chamber, that might be a reason to go.
This is sooooo Amazing, one of my favorite things in Boston. It was not free, it was 6 dollars, but well worth it. You walk inside a giant stained glass globe onto a plexi-glass bridge. It is not only breath-taking visually, but every single sound bounces perfectly off the walls. A person can whisper on one side and another person will hear it clear as day on the other side. I have been many places, but never experienced something like this. Every person who entered the mapparium with us felt the same way. It is such a unique experience and I will absolutely positively see it again the next time I return to Boston. Don't cheat yourself, spend a half hour and check this out!
The displays here are very interactive. The staff are really helpful and knowledgeable!
