Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on April 06, 2024Great place for RV camping however we’re tent camping and there’s few flat areas. Luckily we got one. There’s a play ground, shower house, and place to wash dishes. No water access from the campground. Very clean facilities.
We arrived at Summersville Lake Retreat on a Friday in July, and were pleased to find that they had a space for us. The roads in the park were easily passable, with an entry gate to keep non-campers out. The staff was pleasant on arrival and departure.
Site 23 was long and somewhat sloped (manageable with Anderson Levelers), with a thin gravel pad, 30 amp electric, water, picnic table and a fire ring. The spaces were more widely spaced than is typical for a private park. The park does not have a dump station (which we were told on arrival), nor do they have laundry facilities. There is plenty of grassy area for kids to play, and a playground (Covid closed, as was the bathhouse). The premium, FHU sites have a nice view of Summersville Lake.
The park has a faux lighthouse (created from a wind turbine) which you can tour for a fee, and a gift shop that we did not patronize.
Overall, it was a nice spot, although a bit pricey for what you get.

Beware when making a reservation here!! We arrived for 6 nights only to be told we were in another campground about 5 miles away - and that, “This sometimes happens”. We were directed to a TERRIBLE campground called Mountain Top RV, it’s not even on the map! Make sure you verify (maybe even over the phone), which place you are in, and Do Not go to Mountain Top RV!!

They are working very hard towards adding new facilities, cabins, and site amenities. Brick lined fire pit included Adirondack chairs, the water pressure was strong, and the sewer connections were accessible and clean. The new owners are adding several cabins. The tent area is lower down the valley and very isolated. We stopped in early March 2022 for a National Park visit. The campground was mostly empty during the week. Weather was cool but dry. We had a wonderful stay. It is easy access off of main highway, great for large RV's with towables. Walmart and Sheetz gas is 10 miles away. New River Gorge North Entrance is less than 5 miles.

We arrived the day after a tornado had caused damage and took out power to most of the area. We had no idea because we were dealing with truck problems. Found a nearby dealership who said they could fix it in the morning. We were unable to reach anyone at the campground by phone (power outage) but when we pulled in the owner was quick to offer us a site. He even offered to pick us up from the dealership the next morning if we wanted to wait at the camper. Since there wasn't any power he only charged us for one out of two nights and added a senior discount! We highly recommend everyone spend time at Summersville Retreat and Lighthouse!

This is a wonderful place for a night or a week. Not close to the water, but a great base camp to explore all that Summersville has to offer. Just added vintage campers and tiny cabins. Will definitely be stopping again.
