Nice clean stop. Love dates so tried the date shake. It didn't disappoint. Yes the are tiny pieces of skin, just move your straw up & down or around and try again, it worked for me. The skin confirms it's not 'date-flavored!'
Gorgeous view from vortex lower outlook. Did not need to walk the trail to the summit. Short drive on airport road. Park at first pullout on left.
If you love western history, Canyon Diablo is a must see! You can see the ruins from US 40/Rt 66 and from Two Guns & KOA. The stone ruins are impressive, check out there proximity to the canyon ridge across the bridge. We forgot to look for the cemetery which we suspect is at the end of the rockiest road.
There are abt 3 ways to get close to walk in or drive in. The roughest/rockiest is the road closest to US 40 but we made back this way slowly from the bridge road with an older Saab! The rockiest road takes you to the furthest ruins. The middle road which also intersects with the rocky road takes you across the old bridge to those ruins then you can turn back to catch the Ricky road. This road is quite good. We didn't got further than that. There is large gravel parking area near Two Guns to walk that side of the canyon ruins. Explore a bit to find a cave opening. Others there said it had bats. Personally don't think entering is a wise decision.
Daughter who loves abandoned buildings took lots of pics at Two Guns & KOA.
A must stop!!! Late afternoon to closing is best time for pics. Don't miss this experience!
So interesting. Despite the price, a great educational experience. Was first here as a 6th grader, now 61. Brought back memories of the first trip too.
You might as well drive by on your way to the Wigwam Motel. Cute stop for young kids to stretch legs & a pic.
Worth a drive by if you're stopping to see the Wigwam Motel because of its historic connection. It's painted along the east side of a building's so it's easiest to see if you're westbound. Easy to miss heading east. You can check it off your Rt. 66 list without leaving your car!
Amazing photo opp!! We got to go inside one being cleaned. We would have stayed the night there but they don't take pets, understandably. Don't be like us and forget to take a selfie!!! Grrrrr
Artful symbol visible from US 40. Not as tall as expected. Gives you something to look for without stopping unless you want a picture.
Signage reads 'Scenic Turnout.' There is a view of a cluster of adobe houses on the hill before you and bare hills in the background. Don't know if the houses are old or if there is something else of significance not obvious.
Although a nice view, the better views by far are found the two or so miles just before the turnout.
