I’ve stayed in many a Forest Service campground but this place was definitely one of the very best. The FS has obviously done some major updates recently with new pit toilets, tables, and bear boxes. Very well maintained by two incredible camp hosts Karen and Randy. Karen was actually wiping down and cleaning the table at our site when we pulled in. The toilets were immaculate. The loop and sites are all paved and pretty level. The night skies viewing was awesome. We came in without a reservation midweek in the afternoon and several sites were available.
There is a train track across the valley but the noise is just the rumbling of the cars and was easily overlooked considering how great everything else was. Close to Glacier NP.

We stayed here on 6-3-22 on a drive through in north Washington. Being a Friday and the week after Memorial Day we were expecting a full campground. We’re we’re very surprised to find it nearly vacant. Only 4 campsites were occupied out of 46 total. There is a small loop entering to the right and two larger loops to the left. We picked the smaller loop, site 12 for being flat for our Sprinter van. The fire pit and table sat down and behind, secluded from the loop. A nearby creek provides nice background creek noise. The campground is well maintained with clean toilets and tables. It is 1.2 miles from the highway so there is zero road noise.

Stayed 6-4-22. Nice FS campground run by a private concessionaire. Camp hosts were very friendly and stopped by shortly after our arrival to check on us. Clean toilets, water, bear boxes, and tables. It is heavily forested in beautiful timber so solar is limited during the day. Very near the river with just a short walk. It has a short loop interpretive hiking trail with a good description of the native people who inhabited the area.

We just loved this place. This was one of the cleanest best maintained campgrounds we’ve ever stayed out. The grounds were immaculate. The fire pit had been cleaned and raked. The camp host was the best, caring for the place like it should be. The toilets and showers were spotless with a level of cleanliness that was five star!! The site was paved and flat. You are fairly close to the other sites but many sites including ours (#20) have large bush hedges that block your view of adjoining sites. Fairly close to the highway there was some noise from the logging trucks but by evening that stopped.
Oregon State Parks are great!

This campground is located on such a beautiful location it’s hard to not love it, but the campground itself is such a disappointment it’s sad. For $40 a night (less my whopping $2 senior discount) I expect more. The shower/toilet house was a disaster. No soap, towels, or dryers at the sinks. The shower was filthy and considering it cost extra it wasn’t a tough decision to stay away from that. The toilet space was also a mess with toilet paper on the filthy floor. The water spigot near my site didn’t work. I had contact with the camp host who seemed completely annoyed that I should ask him any questions. Seeing his site, which looked like a junkyard helped explain why the campground was a mess. The picnic table at the site was rotting away. I know California has their fiscal issues but they need to get major work done here. And the final straw was when I left I went to the dump station. They wanted another $10 for dumping. Truly sad since the site has a gorgeous beach and the boardwalk out to Laguna Point is beautiful.

A basic FS loop campground with 10 total sites. There was FS information on the kiosk board telling what has happened here. Due to a root fungus in the evergreen trees, the trees had started to fall over. Due to this danger the FS went in and cut all the trees down for safety reasons. They replanted the campground with new trees but it will be years before they are tall enough to make shade. In the meantime the campground has been overtaken by low shrubbery, wildflowers, wild raspberries, and weeds. It’s obvious this campground doesn’t get lots of use. There were a total of three campers the night I was there. There is a nice creek flowing along the side of the campground and that is where I made the best of it sitting on my camp chair in the shade listening to the creek while I read a good book.

We stayed one night Sept. 9th 2020 as we were moving across Idaho. It’s your basic FS campground with one loop. A few spots where you tuck in among the trees with a table and fire ring. There is water too. It’s easy access to the river and I was jealous watching a fly fisherman casting into beautiful holes and riffles. It’s right next to the road but the road had very little traffic after dark. I was concerned that right next to the river there may be bugs but there were none.

There a numerous Forest Service campgrounds on the road following the shoreline of Baker Lake. Shannon Creek is the last one on the road making for a more secluded place. The last several miles are a typical fairly rough gravel road with washboard and a few potholes. The FS is currently working on some upgrades so our site had the benefit of a new table😁 Many of the sites aren’t level so leveling blocks came in handy. Most people here had kayaks or paddle boards and there was easy access into the lake on a gravel beach. We were here for hiking so the lake was wonderful at the end of a hot day for a cool swim. If you don’t want to negotiate the gravel road I would suggest staying at Swift Creek campground which is the last campground on the paved road. I drove through it and the large loop to the left on entering has many lovely shaded flat sites in the trees.

The Oregon State Parks all seem nice and this one was no exception. All the sites are paved and flat. The shower and toilet facilities were clean and well maintained. There are playgrounds for kids. Easy stroll out of the campground over large sand dunes to access the beach. All the sites have tables and fire pits. Good shade in the majority of spots. The trees and dunes on the west side protect the campground from the relentless sea breeze. The nearby town of Manzanita is a great little tourist town.

Just a heads up for folks with large trailers and RVs. The loops in the trees are narrow and tight. Fine for my Sprinter van but several people I chatted with were leaving because they couldn’t get into their assigned site. It’s really designed for tent campers, vans, and small trailers. Larger RVs need to go to sites 201-248. These are in the “RV Campground” out in the open meadow. These sites are also where the hookups are. No hookups in the tree loops. The forest here is spectacular with nice walking trails, clean toilets, and water spigots available every few sites.
