This Dispersed Camping Area is found at exactly mile marker 10 on the right side of Mirror Lake Highway.
There are two large areas, each able to handle up to 4 campers. When we first arrived in late May on a Wednesday, both areas were occupied. We checked this area several other days, and they remained occupied. We drove by the area next Tuesday, and found them both empty.
If you find it open, it would make a wonderful area for a family group camp. The north area is mostly an open area with Quaking Aspen at your back. The South area is also an open area, but if you are careful, you can back your campers into the pine trees for a lot more shade.
The road into this area is mostly rocky, no fear of getting stuck if it rains.
This area has no water or picnic tables, but there are fire rings.
The highway is far enough away that there is very little highway noise.
When we next camp up Mirror Lake highway, this will be the first area we check.
One final reminder: The campground cost was $0, but the Mirror Lake Highway is a Forest Service Fee Area. As you enter the National Forest just after mile marker 6, on the right side, you will find a Fee Area Kiosk where you will be asked to pay $6 for a three day pass, or $12 for a seven day pass.
