Signposted 8 km from Karamea on Umere Road, an excellent track goes through regenerated forest dotted with Nikau palms. The one hour return track ends at a rimu tree 36m high and 2m in diameter. The tree, which is perhaps 1000 years old, escaped being felled by loggers in the 1940s.
