“Family-friendly wildlife centre with all day kiwi bird viewing in specialised nocturnal houses.”
Kiwi feeding displays at 10.30 am, 1.30 pm and 3.30 pm, plus daily Keeper talks and feeding displays with kea (mountain parrots) kaka (forest parrots) kakariki (parakeets) native long fin eels and whio (blue ducks). There is also an impressive collection of rare tuatara, ancient dinosaur relatives from 225 million years ago.
The Otorohanga Kiwi House & Native Bird Park is a "not-for-profit" Kiwi Sanctuary and conservation centre and has been breeding Kiwi and endangered native NZ species since 1971.
Meandering paths lead through forest plantings with ponds, wetland areas and walk-through aviaries, including a huge dome aviary. Open daily, except Christmas Day. All ticket sales are reinvested in the Park's wildlife & conservation work.
