“Wairere Boulders is a private nature reserve with amazing rock formations.”
“Wairere Boulders” is a private nature reserve with amazing rock formations. The trails take you along the valley, over and under the rocks through a beautiful area of native bush.
There are thousands of massive basalt boulders, piled up along the sides of the Wairere Stream, creating a magical atmosphere. Walks take from 40 minutes to 3 hours, the longest walk taking you to the top of the hill to the site of the original lava flow. From here the views over the Hokianga harbour are truly spectacular. Kayak hire and camping on site. Free overnight camping when you pay Boulders entry fee.
