“an 1892 heritage building full of history”
The Museum is inside the old Bond Store, an 1892 heritage building designed by leading architect Frederick de Jersey Clere. When you step into the building you are immersed in history. Highlights include the story of the 1968 Wahine ferry disaster, and 101 stories of 20th century Wellington life. A favourite with all visitors is the Māori myths and legends show, A Millennium Ago. Films about early Wellington and tall sailing ships are shown on a giant screen stretching up three floors. Allow up to 2 hours to browse through the exhibitions, films and shows.
