“Aroha Island is a 12ha sanctuary in the Kerikeri Inlet and is a short 12km drive north east of Kerikeri, in the stunning Bay of Islands.”
A causeway links the island to the mainland, providing permanent and convenient vehicle access. It is a natural haven with a wide diversity of New Zealand plants and birds including the rare North Island Brown Kiwi.
Stroll the private beach, kayak the inlet, take a bush walk, look for birds and check out the information in the Eco Centre. We offer a range of accommodation including our campground, bush cottages and our inlet view Kiwi Lodge…. so come and stay for a night or two and have the chance to see kiwi in their natural habitat.
We welcome everyone from day visitors searching for the perfect spot for a picnic or those looking for somewhere special to stay. We also welcome schools and educational groups.
Aroha Island has been lovingly restored by volunteers, and continues to be managed by the Aroha Island Charitable Trust. By staying here you will also be helping us to protect and enhance this special environment. If you love nature and have a desire to see some of the unique plants and birds of New Zealand, you’ll love your time at Aroha Island. A truly unique ecological experience awaits you!
