“Established in 1896, Te Mata Estate remains family owned, producing internationally recognized wines exclusively from its Hawke’s Bay vineyards.”
Built in the nineteenth century, Te Mata has been making wine in our original buildings for over 120 years - winning gold medals internationally for our cabernet and chardonnay since the early 1900s. Today, in our heritage vineyards and buildings, Te Mata continues to create New Zealand winemaking history. Go behind-the-scenes and see the country’s oldest barrel hall - the ‘Stained Glass Cellar’ - and visit the Havelock Hills vineyards that form of the heart of the estate. These are New Zealand’s first legally-recognized vineyard sites, officially protected for their heritage value. Follow this with a private wine tasting with WSET qualified staff at our cellar door, designed by New Zealand architect Sir Ian Athfield. Bookings are essential and must be made 24 hours in advance.
