The Craypot is a quirky little caravan style cafe / restaurant situated on the esplanade at Jacksons Bay, Haast. The menu consists of Kiwiana dishes and is famous for (needless to say) crayfish, fish and chips, whitebait, seafood chowder, burgers and much more. All dishes are prepared fresh to order.
Groups of ten or more should make a reservation at least 48 hours prior to arrival to avoid excessive delays and inconvenience. Service times vary seasonally: during the summer months from September until Christmas the restaurant is open for lunch only, extending hours between Christmas and Easter to serve both lunch and dinner, seven days a week.
There are a couple of good bush walks close by, the walks vary from an easy hour return to much longer advanced options. At times you may also encounter rare Fiordland Crested Penguins and dolphins in the bay or the odd deer sauntering down the road.
