Rata Escape is a boutique holiday destination nestled in a native bush garden under striking Mount Somers. It is located by the foothills village of Staveley, Mid Canterbury, 20mins from Methven and a little over an hours drive southwest of Christchurch.

There are two accommodation options within the grounds which can be booked separately or as a whole - Rata Lodge and Rata Cottage.

Rata Lodge is a cosy barnstyle house with a logburner and stunning views from the patio offering relaxed outdoor living. Newly built Rata Cottage offers a light and airy private space with an amazing view from its corner of the garden.

Activities include tramping/hiking, mountain biking, farm tours, 4 wheel drive backcountry exploration to Edoras - Lord of the Rings country. Also on offer are creative activities including cheesemaking, limestone sculpting, art and floral art. They can provide any unique combo, don’t be afraid to ask!
