“the world's most picturesque bomb site!”
"They say that when something is too good to be true, it usually is-- but not in the case of this secret beach in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! It may look unbelievably gorgeous, but it's 100% real. It's officially called "Playa del Amor", or 'the beach of love' (awww), and it's located in the Marieta Islands just off the coast of Mexico. The way the beach came to be is a little less romantic, though. Around the time of World War I, the Mexican government was using the islands as target practice for bombs, and many caves and rock formations, like Playa del Amor, were created as a result of these controlled bombings. In order to get to Playa del Amor, visitors must swim underwater through a short tunnel before they will resurface on the warm, white sand of the hidden beach. The area is surrounded by gorgeous coral reefs, and it also offers insane wildlife-viewing opportunities- rare birds, dolphins, humpback whales and manta rays are all among the animals that can be seen while snorkeling to the beach. Since the area is within a Natural Reserve protected by the government, a permit to visit the islands must be obtained-- but it's easy enough to book a tour to the islands." -Roadtrippers
It's also a protected bird sanctuary! Home to the blue-footed booby bird, and hundreds more species! Such a neat experience!
very very cool- i would love to visit this place...
This place looks even more amazing than the beach in The Beach. Is it the same one?
Wow!!!! My son and I are all over this
I remember going there but as it was a protected bird sanctuary we were told we were not allowed to land on the island just snorkel around it...

There are all prices of accomodations. This is a 15 minute panga boat ride from Anclote (restaurant row) at Punta de Mita-just 30 minutes north of Vallarta.
I live here. The weather is just getting to be perfect! Puerto Vallarta welcomes you with open arms!
