New Lucky

The next time you're dying for some Indian food, you might do well to head to the New Lucky restaurant, where death and dining come together to form a very creepy, very weird eating experience. You see, the restaurant isn't just build on top of an old graveyard... the graves are actually in the building. New Lucky is located in the Indian city of Ahmedabad, and despite the fact that there are century-old gravestones pushing through the floor around nearly every table, the restaurant is always packed with people looking to enoy their famous tea. New Lucky's owner, Krishan Kutti Nair originally worked at a small tea stand that popped up outside of the cemetery, but quickly became business partners with the stand's owner. Little by little, the walls of the tea house expanded until they completely enveloped the graveyard. What remains is a restaurant where patrons have to shimmy by corpses to reach their tables.  ”The graveyard is good luck. Our business is better because of it”, Krishan says. And he's right. Patrons don't seem to be phased by the strange setup, in fact, many people flock to New Lucky not just for the food, but simply for the novelty of eating in an enclosed graveyard.  The cemetery is so old that no one is quite sure who the graves actually belong to, but according to local historians, the best guess is that the tombs belong to relatives of a 16th-century Sufi saint, which certainly can't hurt business. Despite the fact that the graves are too old to properly identify, Krishan has no plans of moving them. Each morning he cleans the graves and decorates them with fresh flowers, a tribute to the remains of the unknown people he shares his space with.
