Masada is an ancient fortress overlooking the dead sea, built by Herod the Great built Masada in 37 BC. Masada is one of Israel's most popular tourist attractions, thousands of visitors come here every year to make the hike up the hill (about 1 hour). There is also a cable car running up the mountain which offers stunning views. Masada is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
I visited Masada a few months ago and was blown away. We only had a literally about an hour and a half so had to whiz round, and couldn't make the hike, but it is one of the most incredible places you will ever visit. The cable car up was a dramatic entrance, the views from the top were astounding and the story of the place just unbelievable. You have to visit! The only thing I would change is the number of tourists, but there you go!
