Tregonhawke is part of a three mile stretch of sand known as Whitsand Bay, considered by many to be East Cornwall's finest beach. Popular with surfers, despite dangerous rip currents, access to the beach at Tregonhawke involves steep steps. Tregonhawke is the headquarters of the Whitsand Bay Surf Lifesaving Club.

This beach is reminiscent of beaches in the Pacific Northwest (in particular, the beach from the movie "The Goonies". If you keep your eyes peeled you may even find Lego on the beach. About 17 years ago a shipping container with millions of Lego sunk into the ocean off the shore. Ever since, Lego have been washed ashore.
