“over 400 species in all”
Paradise Park opened in 1973 as a small family business. Over thirty years later, it is still a family business, but the family has grown considerably! The Park has plenty to entertain people of all ages, and has increased its appeal to youngsters with the opening of the JungleBarn in May 2005. There are approximately 10000 species of birds in the world, and Bird Life International estimate that 1111 species are threatened. In its 25 years, Paradise Park has kept about 400 species, and bred just over 200 species. A drop in the ocean, you might say, but we believe we have made a positive contribution to bird conservation, and also to the sum total of our knowledge about birds. Populations of many bird species are declining, and this is a cause for great concern, since birds are known to be a prime indicator of the general health of the planet.
