“Enjoy the world's largest swimming pool”
The obvious feature of the San Alfonso del Mar is the swimming pool... It is the largest pool in the world, being pumped with millions of gallons of Pacific Ocean water. And with depths all the way to 115ft, it is officially the deepest pool in the world. This insane pool is so big you can actually sail boats on it. Just how big is big? Think over 20 olympic-sized swimming pools. And just how much does it cost to build a pool like this? How about $3.5 million for the filtration system alone and nearly $2 billion for the total cost. Just keeping the pool running isn't cheap, costing another $4 million in operating expenses. Each building also features its own private beach to enjoy the enormous pool. On the rare chance the day is cloudy or rainy, just head to the glass-enclosed beach and pool section. San Alfonso offers a variety of amusements for all ages and interests, especially during holiday seasons. Kids can join the numerous activities organized by monitors and those who love sports can participate into different championships, spinning classes, aqua fitness, yoga and fun dancing, or simply enter one of the available schools to learn or improve their performance on different sport disciplines. There are also activities to be enjoyed by all family members, like massive bike rides, amusing bingos, theatre plays and interesting art exhibitions. Nights are also full of life at San Alfonso. The SubAqua Café, the North Bay Pub and the Beach Club offer karaoke sessions, music recitals and live shows and dancing dinners. One little note: Bring your own towels and sheets as, like most resorts in Chile, they are not complimentary.
It's a lot of fun to swim laps or even just run/walk around the perimeter. The water is cold in the big pool, but much nicer than the frigid ocean. I don't know what they mean by 115ft depth though. The pool is about 8 feet deep in its entirety (look at the shadow of the boat in the picture above).
Go visit, but it is not public, if I'm not mistaken. It is a condominium but you can rent an apartment right on the spot if there are vacancies.
I want to vacation there...forever!
I had to look this up on Google Earth. That's a big pool.
