Government House

In 1945, Government House was leased to the Department of Veterans Affairs as a convalescent home until 1957. From 1958-1977, the house was used as a centre for adult education and became known as Saskatchewan House. Restoration started in 1978 and it opened as a museum in 1980. The Office of the Lieutenant Governor did not return to the house until 1984 and currently occupies the north wing of the house. Today, Government House is restored to the time period of 1898-1910, during the tenure of Lieutenant Governor Amédée Forget. Take a trip back in time and discover the treasures of Government House. Restored to the period of Lieutenant Governor Amédée Forget (1898-1910), the museum gives you a glimpse of life at Government House at the turn of the 20th century. The grounds at Government House have been rehabilitated following the Edwardian style that was popular when the gardens were originally planted. They provide a welcoming green space, allowing visitors to further enjoy the richness and beauty of this National Historic Property. The grounds are a family-friendly, wheelchair-accessible public space available to everyone at no cost.
