“see the stunning blue remains of a mine”
Wallingford-back mine used to be the largest mine in North America until a bigger mine was found in Ontario. The mine is made up of Feldspath, Mica and mostly Quartz. Its hard to access in winter months, so it's recommended to go in the summer. There's generally plenty of people hiking or ATV-ing in the summer months, though in the spring and fall it tends to be completely quiet. No tools are required to explore the mine, but some parts of the mine are flooded, therefore a small boat will be needed to explore some of the lower portions... unless you want to swim. The water is crystal clear, and gets it's distinct blue hue from the remains of the quartz. Explore at your own risk!
Try being a resident in this otherwise "quiet" community, having hundreds of "tourists" invade your privacy, block our roads with parked cars, use our docks and lawn chairs as their own, steal your possession (they even stole our floating dock). When confronted they simply claim they thought those were all there for their use!!!
They totally ignore and deface the NO PARKING signs, and park on and in front of our property.
We the residents have had enough, and something big is in the works. For us who are trying to enjoy nature this is like something out of a nightmare. If you have any decency whatsover, you will shut down this blog and stop sending people over here, this is OUR home - stop invading.
Bear in mind as well there are no facilities whatsoever to accommodate 200 + visitors per day, and the place has become a garbage dump.
Just this morning, as I was walking my dogs, we came upon human excrement right in the middle of our street! What kind of individual does this? This is not a public place, and never will be, it is dangerous and you are intruding on a peaceful community.
P.S. The residents are sick and tired of the "tourists" using their docks and lake front, there is a public boat landing, and picnic area stay on these and stay away from the rest which is ALL PRIVATE!
