“A giant hole in the middle of a lake”
Almost 200 miles above Yellowknife, the capitol city of Canada's Northwest Territories, sits a very, very big hole in the middle of a lake. It's a sight that doesn't even look real, but not only does the gigantic crater exist, it has its own airport... and some say its own UFOs. The huge hole is the site of the Diavic diamond mine, a remote operation that has quickly become one of the most important parts of the regional economy, producing around 3,300 pounds of diamonds a year. That's a lot of carats. For years, the only way to reach the mine is via an ice road - a road that, you guessed it, can only be driven over in the winter, and even then, can be a dangerous affair if the ice isn't hard enough. Eventually, a booming industry, and a whole bunch miners who didn't like the thought of being trapped in the Arctic all summer, were cause enough to build Diavic its very own airport. In the fall of 2012, the mine was the location of an alleged "mass UFO sighting" where huge, hovering craft were seen floating above the hole. Thanks to this sighting, and the incredibly weird photographs that were captured from it, some speculate that there's more being uncovered than diamonds beneath the lakes. Of course, others speculate that some bored miner snapped photos of reflections and uploaded them to the internet.
