“try the Pannekoek”
Open All Year! The Dancing Moose Café is a full-service restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks, and baked goods, all made fresh right here. Visit us on the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia—a great place to meet and eat. We're open from 7:00 to 4:00 every day in summer, and for long weekends (Friday–Sunday) in winter. Our signature dish is the Pannekoek, the Dutch way to enjoy a different kind of "pancake" for both breakfast and lunch. Try them sweet with real whipped cream, syrup, honey, icing sugar, fresh fruit, chocolate, raisins, nuts—the options are limited only by what's in season and our imagination. Or go savoury; green onions baked in, with Gouda cheese melted on top, or bacon and mushrooms cooked in, and an egg fried your way on top—just some of the delightful possibilities. We prepare Belgian Waffles to order, and top them with your choice of fresh, hand-cut fruit, raisins (we soak them in vodka), cinnamon, icing sugar, and real whipped cream. If you spot something else on our menu that you'd like to see on your waffle, just ask; we'll try anything once! Every day we make soup, often with a Dutch twist; in winter, there's chili, too. We make sandwiches hot or cold, filling dependent on what's in our pantry; whatever the filling, the bread is made right here. And we make our own granola cereal, too. As well as our menu dishes, we feature café baked goods, tea and Van Houte coffee, ice cream, road snacks, and other treats; it's worth visiting often, to get a chance to sample our Dutch Apple pie. We do all the baking right here in our open kitchen. Have a hearty breakfast or lunch while you unwind at our picture-window tables, or bring your picnic lunch and grab dessert inside, then head out to where more tables await. Either way, enjoy our stunning ocean view. And, yes, we can do everything on our menu for takeout.
Fantastic Place!! Think: Hot, steamy, crusty giant pancake! 1. Don't let the word "pannekoek" distract you - when I ordered I asked for gluten free and the cook (CHEF) said he made gluten... Read more

The best place I've eaten on the Cabot Trail, by far. They make their own bread, they have a large pannekoek menu. Pannekoek is crepe based dishes, savoury and sweet. I'm eating their crab roll... Read more
