“a place for quiet reflection, or family fun”
The International Peace Garden is at the heart – at the Center/Centre – of the Turtle Mountains. We’re at the heart and Centre of the Great Plains/the Midwest/the prairies. We are at the heart of Turtle Island of North America. No matter how you want to describe our geographic – and spiritual – location, the International Peace Garden is a perfect place to gather, to meet, and to experience the promise of peace created more than 80 years ago. Ideas for an international garden to celebrate the peace that exists between Canada and the United States of America began bubbling up at international botanical and horticultural conferences within a decade of the end of the “War to end all wars.” The International Peace Garden has helped to celebrate the peace and friendship between the people of Canada and the United States of America for more than 85 years. More than 100,000 visitors each year enjoy the 2,339 acres avaliable to explore. The park offers picturesque picnic areas, modern campgrounds, hiking trails, bike paths and a wildlife refuge, where you are sure to spot deer, moose and other animals in the natural environment. The Peace Garden was dedicated on July 14, 1932 with a Cairn, which states, “To God in his Glory we two nations dedicate this garden and pledge ourselves that as long as men shall live we will not take up arms against one another.” A reminder of how we all must work together for peace for all citizens. With more than 150,000 flowers planted each summer, guests are invited to enjoy the ever-changing displays. The International Peace Garden is open year-round with either staff or self- registration at the gate entrance.
