“Learn about the experiences of immigrants”
Learn about the experiences of immigrants as they arrived in Canada, the vital role of immigration in the building of Canada and the contributions of immigrants to our country—all at one unique place. Discover the Museum’s main exhibition dedicated to the years when Pier 21 was open as an immigration shed. Learn about the one million immigrants, refugees, war brides, evacuee children and displaced persons who came through this gateway between 1928 and 1971. You’ll also learn about Canada’s participation during the desperate days of WWII when 500,000 military personnel departed from Pier 21. Hear the personal stories of diverse immigrants from all over the world in our 20 minute contemporary bilingual filmin Canada. Be sure to research your family’s immigration history and contribute your immigration story to our growing collection in the Scotiabank Family History Centre. Take in our temporary and community partnership exhibitions in the Ralph and Rose Chiodo Harbourside Gallery. These exhibitions further explore themes of immigration, cultural diversity, cultural heritage and identity. Also, find unique treasures from Canada and around the world in our one-of-a-kind Gift Shop.
