“brings together creative people working independently”
The Colborne Art Gallery is an artists’ collective that brings together creative people working independently as makers of fine craft, fibre and mixed media artists, photographers, painters, sculptors, and printmakers. Exhibits feature members’ work in solo and group shows while guest artists’ work is presented twice annually. The Gallery is housed in the historic village of Colborne, in a heritage building modernized to suit exhibition needs. At 51 King Street East, the Gallery – on the Apple Route – welcomes visitors from west of Toronto to Ottawa and tourists from wherever. The Colborne Society of Artists was founded in the spring of 1997 in response to the unique opportunity to protect the historic East Northumberland Land Registry Office, sold by the provincial government to the village of Colborne on the condition that it be maintained as a museum or library. The Society breathed new life into the building and, together with the Gallery and heritage building, represents creativity and culture in a new, vibrant form.
