“An engineering masterpiece!”
This lock is 47.8 km up the Trent-Severn Waterway System and can be found on chart 2021. The lift is 7.3m. Ranney Falls Locks are the first of two flight locks on the Waterway. Locks 11/12 are located at the south end of the Town of Campbellford. A short walk to the nearby suspension bridge to Ferris Provincial Park and the Rotary Trail offer excellent opportunities to stretch the legs. The Ranney Gorge suspension bridge is a 100-metre span of steel, suspended 10 metres above the turbulent Trent River at Ranney Falls. This location provides for a unique experience with sights of Ranney Falls, river currents, eddies, high gorge cliffs and the gentle sway of trees. An excellent range of services are available nearby including a hospital, in this town of 3400 people. At these locks your boat is lifted up 48 feet in two stages of 24 feet. The flight locks operate simultaneously, with both upbound and downbound boats on the move through the locks, so follow the lockmaster’s instructions.
