Edgewater Bar Campground

Derby Reach Regional Park is managed by Metro Vancouver and includes not only the campground at Edgewater Bay, but also approximately 800 acres of wetlands, bogs, forests and meadows.

The campground itself is situated on the south shore of the Fraser River and since every site is a back-in you're assured a river view no matter which site you select (there are no reservations). We enjoyed watching the barge and other watercraft traffic on the river and in the morning we were charmed by a large visiting flock of Canada geese. This campground has no hook-ups or dump station but there are vault toilets and water spigots throughout the campground. Big rigs would find the sites challenging. Firewood is available to purchase from the camp host. In addition to camping there is a large day use area with a picnic pavilion and an off-leash dog area.

There is a nice walking/running/biking trail that parallels the riverbank from either end of the campground. If you go east you'll see some amazing giant cottonwood trees - I've never seen any bigger. If you're feeling ambitious, you can ride your bike all the way (maybe about 7 miles?) to the town of Fort Langley on the Fort to Fort Trail. The park also includes an historic heritage area where early day settlers lived.

Two caveats about this campground. Number one is that the riverbank slopes steeply and the Fraser is deep and swift so children need to be closely supervised. Number two is that there is a lot of train traffic on the opposite side of the river so you will get some train noise. We didn't find it too offensive though.

This is one of my favourite campgrounds because I can sit in a lawn chair and watch the trains or tugboats on the river or walk my dogs extensively. Lots of trails.

All sites are on the Fraser River. Amazing walking trails and super dog friendly! The tug boats were awesome to watch. We were able to beach the kayaks right at our site so that is another big plus. No hookups. Pit toilets are super clean. Very nice place.

All sites are on the river. There was only one site available when I got there so we stayed at site1. We love our site. Very private and we got a whole river view in front of us. We enjoyed watching sunsets ever day!!! Our site is pretty level. Easy to back in and out. Our RV is 25 feet but big rigs seemed okay too. There is a huge off leash area in the park. If you are traveling with your dogs, this place will be a hit for your doggies!!! You can buy fire logs at the entrance. Highly recommended!!!

The site was large and fairly private with only one neighbour beside us. The site was level with lots of room to spread out. There is no power, water, or sewer, but every site has a fire pit and picnic table. They do have power hour for generators twice a day in the morning and evening, and we noticed that everyone abided by that and did not run their generators in the off hours. We stayed here with our dogs and walked them along the trails several times a day. We had a campfire burning from morning until night both days we were there. They sell bundles of wood for $6 or you can bring your own clean wood. There were some mosquitoes, but not too bad in the evenings. Every campsite is right on the Fraser River and has an equally beautiful view. We will definitely go back.

The park was easy to find. Follow directions to Derby Reach Regional Park just off of Allard Crescent. There is pavement all the way until you arrive at the park. Signage is very good. Check in was efficient and friendly. The gate house is manned during business hours. After hours there is a Camp Host that can assist you if needed. The main gates close after hours so the park is very safe. The park rules are fairly basic except for the times when you are allowed to run a generator. FYI Reservations are required now. No longer first come First Served.
Our site, 37, was a back in that was long enough for our Coach and Towed. It overlooked the Fraser River which was very nice. There is some traffic on the river including tugs moving barges etc. On the opposite shore lies a busy Railway. You can hear the diesel engines from the park but it is not too loud.
There are NO SERVICES at the campsites. There are potable water spigots in the park. There are pit toilets as well as trash and recycling bins. There is NO SANI DUMP. There is no Wifi thus you will need to provide your own internet service. We did find a few OTA TV channels. Satellite might be difficult because of the trees if you don’t have a portable dish. We did not use the Pit Toilets but we checked and found them clean. The Fort to Fort trail is accessible. Distancing is very reasonable for an urban park. Some sites have a vegetation barrier Each site has a table and most have a fire pit. Our site was flat and level. Overall the park was pretty and well manicured. We only found one minor drawback for this park. The site surface is covered with small pea gravel. When wet, this stuck to our dags paws and she brought it inside for us.
Overall, we found this park to be a pleasant, well run urban Campground. We paid $22.00 per night (including our seniors discount) and we feel we received good very good value. We will be back if in the area again.

I have always loved staying here. However today while walking my dogs above the campground there was a tributary flowing with bubbling brown sewage right into the river above the campground. I looked further and there was a cesspool of swirling sewage in the bush under the small bridge. It is disturbing to me because I know a few hundred yards down the beach families, kids, pets are playing, swimming in this water. No idea this would be allowed. I love staying here by won't go in water again.
