“Awe-inspiring views of the Thompson Canyon”
A convenient overnight camping spot for travelers on Highway #1, this is also a popular base camp for visitors enjoying river rafting, fishing, and exploring the Thompson River area. Awe-inspiring views of the Thompson Canyon and quiet strolls on the old Cariboo Wagon Road bring to mind the difficulties encountered by early travellers traversing the western mountain ranges. An introduced herd of elk thrives nearby. Arrangements for guided river rafting trips may be made in Lytton or Spences Bridge. Skihist was established in 1956. Back then most visitors to Provincial Parks camped in tents or small trailers. Camping methods have changed and the campsites have recently been reconstructed to provide accessible accommodation for the larger camping units used today.

Looking for a one night wayside campground for our 28 foot travel trailer, we came upon this campground. If possible a visitor might consider spending at least two nights to explore the variety of historical hiking trails within the park. Across the busy highway is the day use area with river access Most of the sites are very large and reasonably level. The bathrooms are clean and cared for. If it's hot, and it may be, most sites have some tree cover. There is a dump station too. Being adjacent to the highway and two busy rail lines there is some noise, yet the campsites are high in the hill so most of the noise is not exactly excessive.

We were planning to stay here for just overnight on our way to Prince George but we ended up stay two nights. When we checked in, we talked to our camp host. She recommended us the site 35 and she was right! It’s on the top loop and very private. Probably the best of the mountain in the entire campground. Spacious and level site. Excellent T-mobile LTE. There are a few trails in the campground. Fire log is sold 8 CAD and it’s enough for two nights. Drinking waters and bathrooms are easily accessible, but we didn’t use the bathroom so we are not sure about the condition. Dump station at the entrance cost 5 CAS. Highly recommended!!!

Sites are well spaced and surrounded by pine trees. It is close to the road, but because it’s so high up, you didn’t hear any road noise. We were in the upper loop. Clean restrooms. Sites were well maintained, Host has been here 7 years.
