“if you're lucky the falls might be pink!”
A rare phenomenon occurs when heavy rains causes a red-colored sediment called argolite to turn the falls red! A great photo opportunity if you're lucky enough to catch it! I recommend visiting during the rainy season. Cameron Falls is a very uniquely shaped waterfall of about 75 feet in height found in the heart of the Waterton townsite in Waterton Lakes National Park. Cameron Creek falls over a section of bedrock thrust upward at an angle and because its eroded the various layers differently, the water takes several different paths down the rock face, actually crossing over itself in two separate instances, creating a striking double "X" pattern. Located in the town site on Evergreen Avenue, Cameron Falls attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world each year. As Rocky Mountain water cascades over 1.5 billion year old pre-Cambrian rock you’ll experience equal measures of serenity and awe as you take in one of the world’s most photographed geological wonders. A short, paved pathway to the right of Cameron Falls offers amazing vantage points of the upper waterfall. It is also the ending point of the Carthew-Alderson Trail, a 19 km one-way trek from Cameron Lake back to Waterton Village.
Reviews
Falls are nice with hiking paths around. Went late April 2017 but the falls weren't pink. The village of Waterton and the whole national park is very beautiful though. Plenty of Wildlife roaming the streets, at least when I went there were.
