We waited anxiously to return to this once beautiful campground. It has been closed for four years and to see all the trees removed and in its place mud bogs and debris is beyond disappointing. Shame on Parks Canada for this terrible ruination of nature. The site wasn't even level. Really?

The last time we passed through Jasper this campground was closed for renovation, so this was our first experience.
This campground is huge! Thankfully the check-in process was easy, with lots of RV parking and a clear system.
First impressions are it is very well organized, with an excellent quality road system. It is organized as a large loop road around the outside, passing a lot of smaller loops where the sites are located, maybe 15 sites per small loop. The sites themselves are gravel and it had rained in the last day or so so there were puddles and mud. Our heavy rig certainly left a shallow groove in the slightly soft gravel when we left.
I didn't see the campground before the renovation, but I can understand other people's concern because they definitely took a lot of trees out, leaving a large area of the campground looking bare. There were some trees around our area. In general the further you are away from the check-in office the more trees. I expect they have taken the long view and over time the trees will be planted and mature, making it a more natural area. That said this is a beautiful location that's easy to access with any size rig. Jasper is just a few miles down the road and offers many food options.

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay here. We got site 15M in the loop that's outside the main section off of Whistlers Rd. Even though most of the terrain in this campground has been sadly clearcut due to beetle infestation, limiting privacy... our campsite was lush with vegetation and quite private, quiet, and easily navigated. The restroom facilities here are IMMACULATE. Bathrooms and separate showers are seemingly brand new, spotlessly clean, and pleasant... also a close and easy walk from any site in the loop. Note however, they do close the entire building each morning for a good hour or so between 9 & 11am. This was a slight inconvenience for a wonderful outcome. I'd stay here again and again.

We made reservations for Jasper National Park/Whistler Campground months in advance as it fills quickly. Yes, you may be able to find a lone site here or there, but if you would like to stay put for a while, as we did, try your best to plan ahead. The campground has about 30 loops with dozen+ sites in each loop, however, it doesn't feel overly crowded. We camped in Loop 28, Site i.
The town of Jasper, bikeable and only 2 kms away, had a few more tee shirt shops than I like, but was still acceptable based on the outdoor activities available, a couple of decent grocery stores...and Earl's. Be sure to eat at Earl's Kitchen + Bar. If you're headed out to kayak/canoe at Lake Maligne, arrive at the Lake by 9:00 a.m. or you'll be overrun with tour buses. We enjoyed a great paddle before the crowds. If you choose to take the 1-1/2 hour round trip boat tour to Spirit Island, book online.
Our 'intermediate' short hike to Old Fort Point was made even better since there are trails you can take a leashed dog on. Thank you, Canada!
Rate was $28/night/Canadian with an additional charge for reserving online. You must also pay a nightly fee, per person, to stay within a Canadian National Park. You might find it more economical to purchase the two-year pass for $130.00 (Canadian).
There are a minimal number of hookups available, but there is also an outstanding 8-rig dump and fresh water fill available.

Enjoyed our recent stay at Whistlers. It's conveniently located only a few minutes drive from the town of Jasper. The campground itself is large with numerous loops but well maintained.
When we arrived, there were groups of volunteers cleaning the sites and planting trees. We enjoyed walks around the loops and watching the elk grazing nearby.

We wished we could have stayed here for more nights, but we were only able to snag 3 nights on the reservation system (and then moved to Wapiti FCFS).
Pros:
-Great location - you can bike or run right up into downtown Jasper (or a 3 min drive)
-Sites are rather large/private and set in the woods
-Cell Service - We had fast signal on ATT/Rogers
Cons:
-Can't think of any (other than it will be closed for the entire 2019 season for renovations) =(

We have been staying here for the last 10 years. It is quite popular with foreign travellers who generally stay one or two nights which makes it very hard for anyone to stay for more than a couple nights without moving. That reservation system needs work. The sites are well spaced which makes the park seem far more private than it is. It is walking distance to town, only a couple km. Due to pine beetle kill, among other reasons, this campground is closed for the 2019 season for reconstruction. An unfortunate event as the tall trees make this park what it is. Some sites are more difficult to access with larger rigs.

This campground is incredible. We had a grizzly wander by as we were setting up! He was spotted again at the playground later and swiftly driven off by rangers. We also had tons of elk around and spied what I think was a bobcat as well. We were originally going to stay just 3 nights but extended because the setting was so picturesque. We were in a dry camping site tucked among tall trees with views of the mountains. We may have had one of the best spots but there are gorgeous spaces all around. The campground is huge with creeks and woodland paths criss crossing throughout. There are spotless, modern, free showers and nice restroom buildings in several places and a nice playground.

Loved camping here! Look at satellite photos to pick a loop with more trees. Loop numbers above 30 have had lots of clearing to eliminate dead trees, and they're more open. We stayed in 4 different sites, with varying rates, in order to extend our stay. Liked 21 and 25 the best.
Fabulously clean, new bathouses, free showers, and dish station.
Lots of nearby hikes. (Start early in the day! ) Drove into Jasper (free RV parking) for laundromat and groceries. A little pricey, but look where you are.
This is a beautiful area and we'd love to return. The National Park Pass is a must and very reasonable for seniors. Cell service varies per site. No WiFi in park.
