Jurien Bay Interpretive Snorkel Trail is the perfect place for young and novice snorkellers to meet the marine life of Jurien Bay Marine Park. Sheltered by outlying islands and limestone reefs, the artificial reef is colonised by many corals, sponges and fish, and the extensive natural reef beyond is a divers’ and experienced snorkellers’ delight. Taking the scenic Indian Ocean Drive north from Perth, you can reach Jurien Bay within two hours. An information bay for the Jurien Bay Interpretive Snorkel Trail is located near Dobbyn Park, and from here you simply step off Jurien Bay beach and snorkel out to the end of the old jetty piles. Created from more than 70 reef balls and designed to mimic a natural reef system, the artificial reef has created a habitat for many fish and corals and a Swim Card (available for purchase from local shops) provides a handy guide for identifying the marine life you spot. Beyond the trail, the natural reef begins, with caves, grottos and overhangs covered with colourful sponges, sea squirts, anemones and corals. The seagrass meadows inside the lagoon may also provide glimpses of juvenile marine life as this is a vital nursery for many species.
