The Port of Sale is located at the northern end of the man-made canal, which has historically provided shipping and pleasure boats with excellent access into the heart of the township. It connects into a network of natural waterways and the Gippsland Lakes - in effect connecting Sale to Lakes Entrance by water. In 2018, a major $14.53m redevelopment was undertaken which saw the former Sale Civic Centre, which overlooks the Port, transformed into the new Wellington Centre. This Centre presently houses the Sale Library, Gippsland Art Gallery, Sale Visitor Centre, Council Chambers, café and community spaces. The precinct also showcases The Wedge Performing Arts Centre. The Centre hosts a great variety of local, national and international acts throughout the year. The Wedge is a contemporary hub for performing arts and entertainment complete with theatre, versatile meeting rooms and modern café.
