Aileron Hotel & Roadhouse

135km north of Alice Springs stands a lone giant, Anmatjere Man. Weighing eight tonne and towering over Aileron and the region, the 17 m tall statue cuts an impressive silhouette. Local sculptor, Mark Egan, based him on a traditional man from the local Anmatjere tribe, and worked on him for a year before he was erected in 2005, attracting people to stop at the roadhouse underneath him. Three years later, Anmatjere Man was joined by Anmatjere Woman and they had a child too. The roadhouse offers proper outback hospitality with tucker, supplies, fuel and a place to rest your head for the night. Greg Dick, owner of the Aileron Hotel has installed lights so that the huge figure can be seen at night.
