“Go right to the source of high calibre Aboriginal art at this small township, whose artists grace every major Australian collection of Aboriginal art.”

The Injalak Arts and Crafts Centre provides a unique opportunity to view Aboriginal artistry of very high calibre. Gunbalanya, or Oenpelli as it is also known, is a small Aboriginal township close to the East Alligator River, which is the natural boundary of Kakadu National Park. Approximately 1,000 people live in the town and its outstations.

Artists from this region are featured in every major collection of Aboriginal art in Australia, as well as a few collections overseas. There are traditional painters, bark painters, basket weavers and screen printers.

Browse the centre, viewing unique Aboriginal art and crafts, all made locally. Travellers may also be able to see the artists at work, and watch local women weaving pandanus baskets.

Injalak Arts and Crafts Centre is located on Aboriginal land within Arnhem Land. You must obtain a permit from the Northern Land Council before crossing the East Alligator River.

Injalak may close at short notice for cultural and community reasons, please phone prior to your departure to ensure Injalak Arts and crafts is open.
