“A sympathetic desert spectrum of ochre, deep violet, blue and gentle white light. Basically, lots and lots of lights.”
As darkness falls and Uluru is thrown into silhouette, Field of Light, lights up. As far as the eye can see rhythms of colour light up the desert. This mighty exhibition, Tili Wiru Tjuta Nyakutjaku or ‘looking at lots of beautiful lights’, is celebrated artist, Bruce Munro’s, largest work to date. Covering more than seven football fields, it invites immersion in its fantasy garden of 50,000 spindles of light, the stems breathing and swaying through a sympathetic desert spectrum of ochre, deep violet, blue and gentle white. It’s a field that Alice and the Mad Hatter from Wonderland would feel right at home in. Field of Light is on until 2020 and you can lose yourself in the experiential artwork in a number of different ways; from the entry-level Field of Light Pass to a special dinner.
