Narrabri Fish Farm is the largest hatchery based aquaculture farm in NSW breeding native fingerling and yabbies. It is located just 10km out of Narrabri off the Newell Highway and a must see for all ages.Narrabri Fish Farm provides guided tours, fish feeding, yabbying and fishing. The farm is 250 acres and contains 41 dams and a 4 metre sculpture of a Murray Cod made out of recycled materials.Narrabri Fish Farm also caters for functions in their rustic BBQ and picnic area and holds activities like yabby races, casting competitions and the famous carp throw.Visit Narrabri Fish Farm for an exciting day out, take a guided tour or enjoy fishing or yabbying. Catch your lunch and then cook it up at the BBQ area. Visit the hatchery and see the aquariums, feed the monster Murray Cod and the jumping Barramundi or take a picture with Wal the sculptured cod. Bookings are essential.Narrabri Fish Farm is an accredited hatchery under the NSW Department of Primary Industries Hatchery Quality Assurance Scheme. GOLDEN PERCHGolden Perch also known as Yellowbelly do well in farm dams however it is unlikely that they will reproduce naturally in dams, usually only in the river system. At one time they can lay up to 200,000 eggs per kilo of their size. Golden Perch are great eating, a good fishing catch and can be stocked alongside Silver Perch. They feed off yabbies, shrimps, insects and small fish. They are available between February and April.SILVER PERCHSilver Perch have proven most popular in Aquaponics but also do great in farm dams due to them feeding on weeds, algae and small insects. Sadly, their numbers are diminishing in the river system due to pest fish like carp damaging their habitat. Silver Perch can produce up to 100,000 eggs per kilo of their size. They are fast growing and an easy fishing catch. They are available yearly between March and May.YABBIESNarrabri Fish Farm supply all size yabbies (Cheerax destructor) for bait, stocking dams and eating. Yabbies are also a great food source for native fish. They are excellent eating and can breed up to 3 times per year in the right conditions. Yabbies live to 10 years and reach a good eating size within 2 years. Check the website for availability of yabbies, they are seasonal due to breeding regimes.MURRAY CODMurray Cod are the largest of the Australian freshwater fish, reaching over 100kg and up to 180cm.They are identified by a large mouth, cream/white belly & green pattern.EEL-TAILED CATFISHEel-tailed catfish are considered by some to be the finest freshwater fish of all to eat, they have white flesh and an excellent, delicate flavour.Eel-tailed catfish will produce naturally in farm dams by building nests, they feed off yabbies, shrimps, molluscs and other organisms from the bottom. They are available at Narrabri Fish Farm twice a year between December and February and May and August.
