Wellington Park - Mt Wellington

This touch of wilderness on Hobart's doorstep offers walking, climbing, abseiling, cycling and sightseeing opportunities less than a half-hour drive from the city. Only in Tasmania would you find so much wilderness and natural beauty so close to the city. Mt Wellington is visible from just about anywhere in Hobart and locals, not surprisingly, refer to it as "the mountain". The views from the summit of Mt Wellington are truly superb. The 21 kilometre drive to the summit passes through temperate rainforest to sub-alpine flora and glacial rock formations and ends with panoramic views of Hobart, Bruny Island, D'Entrecasteux Channel and into the South West Wilderness. On the mountain are numerous walking tracks ranging from easy strolls to tough climbs through cool forests and past springs, cascades, waterfalls and the soaring dolerite columns of the Organ Pipes.
