“Bendigo's Ulumbarra Theatre majestically rises from within the walls of the former Sandhurst Gaol, once home to some of Victoria's most infamous characters.”
Start your Bendigo experience by visiting one of the grandest Visitor Centre's in Australia, Bendigo Visitor Centre. Bendigo Visitor Centre is housed in the former historic Post Office, which showcases Victorian architecture at its best. This iconic building was testament to Bendigo's status as the richest city in the world during the 1850's gold rush. The building was officially opened in 1887 and this classic example of Renaissance Revival style architecture now operates as the Bendigo Visitor Centre. Providing a genuine connection to the local community the centre incorporates the Living Arts Space and Post Office Gallery. Visitors have the opportunity to see and feel works of living artists in the region and interact with artist demonstrations scheduled throughout the year. The Post Office Gallery introduces an important social history element to the community's cultural foundations, offering an annual changing program of exhibitions. The Bendigo Visitor Centre is forging an Australian leadership role in the delivery of innovative visitor servicing programs and has been recognised for its achievements by winning state tourism awards for three consecutive years entering the Hall of Fame. Open seven days per week, skilled staff and volunteers deliver information and undertake accommodation, attraction and tour bookings.
