Some are internationally renowned and have been exhibited in major galleries and museums, both within Australia and overseas as well as many large private collections. The Papunya Tula Artists gallery is located in Todd Mall, Alice Springs. The Papunya Tula Art Movement started in 1971. Papunya Tula Artists is entirely owned and directed by traditional Aboriginal people from the Western Desert, predominantly of the Luritja/Pintupi language groups. The aim of the company is to promote individual artists, to provide economic development for their communities, and to help to maintain a rich cultural heritage.
