“The Boomslang in Kirstenbosch!”
The Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway is a new curved steel and timber bridge that winds and dips its way through and over the trees of the Arboretum. Inspired by a snake skeleton, and informally called 'The Boomslang' (meaning tree snake), it is a low-maintenance, low-impact sculptural raised walkway. The Walkway takes the visitor from the forest floor into and through the trees and bursts out above the canopy, giving spectacular 360o vistas of the surrounding mountains, Garden and Cape Flats. The Boomslang is wheelchair-accessible, but the Arboretum is situated quite high in the Garden, so visitors in wheelchairs will need assistance to negotiate the steep gradients to get to the walkway.
If you're going to swing by Kirstenbosch Gardens, you've got to find this place. It's super curvy and fun. Semi touristy though, but that's the thing. It's a relaxing place to take a walk.
The Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway is an enchanted treetop walkway that takes you on a twisting and curving journey through Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.
Made with curved steel and wood, the walkway was inspired by a snake's skeleton. Specifically, a 'Boomslang' tree snake. It's a low-impact walk that takes you on an aerial tour above the treetop canopy, with a breathtaking 360 degree vistas of the mountains, Garden and Cape Flats. It's also wheelchair-accessible.
