“The little brother to Big Crater Lake”
Little Crater Lake is located in a beautiful alpine meadow full of summertime wildflowers, and is also a good spot for wildlife viewing and birding. It is accessible by a paved walkway. But the best part of Little Crater Lake is the lake, or pond, itself. It is very small but very deep, and it is “gin clear” with an iridescent blue-green color. Located near Little Crater Lake. The small version of the famous lake to the south is considered a geologic oddity, possibly created by artesian water forcing its way through the soft volcanic rock, creating a "blowhole." Excellent huckleberry picking in the vicinity. Campground is wheelchair accessible.
This place is absolutely beautiful and wonderfully quiet. It's completely off the beaten path making it a peaceful place to explore. The lake is a short, flat hike from the parking lot and the water is so blue and so clear, you can see all the way to the bottom. If you keep following the path past the lake and into the woods, you will eventually come in contact with the PCT!
